Taco Bell Salmonella Outbreak Lawsuits and LitigationOn August 6, 2010, Marler Clark filed the first Salmonella lawsuit connected to a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella linked to Taco Bell restaurants on behalf of a Kentucky resident. The lawsuit was filed against Yum Brands, Inc., parent company of Taco Bell. The case was filed in Franklin County Circuit Court.
Two strains of Salmonella were implicated in the 2010 outbreak: Salmonella Hartford and Salmonella Baildon. The Salmonella Hartford outbreak caused 75 illnesses in 15 states: Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin. The Salmonella Bialdon outbreak caused 80 illnesses. The states involved with that strain were Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin.
On August 17, Marler Clark filed a second lawsuit on behalf of an Ohio resident infected with Salmonella Hartford after eating at Taco Bell. On February 2, 2011 Marler Clark filed its third lawsuit in Michigan Circuit Court on behalf of a Whitehall, Michigan man who contracted Salmonella Baildon after eating at a local Taco Bell.
Marler Clark has resolved the claims of several victims of the Taco Bell Salmonella Hartford and Baildon outbreak. One case remains in litigation.
